FULL STURGEON MOON IN PISCES
Monday, August 24th at 1:05pm
This month the Moon's luminosity and power peaks in the sign of Pisces which, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, Wwe must give credit to the fishing tribes for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.
The Pisces full Moon brings the collective imagination to the foreground, and it's something we can all tap into if we know how. In an interview on NPR, the filmmaker David Lynch talked about meditation as a way to get past the lower distractions to the good stuff. That beyond fear and the monkey mind is a vast imaginative landscape from which to draw inspiration. Lynch has written a book on meditation and creativity called Catching the Big Fish, aptly named reading material for the "Fishes" full Moon.
The Pisces full Moon is like getting a day pass to that imaginative realm, and a great time to recommit to your own personal vision. There's likely to be a mood of mystery and magic that reveals the subtlest of vibes. It's a good time to quiet the chattering mind, and tune in to nature, music, art, film, and anything else that speaks to your soul.
As the last sign, the Pisces full Moon is a lunar culmination, and it comes at harvest time, with the Sun in Virgo. It's time to bring to fruition, or take action on any new Moon intentions you set around August 9th.
This month’s Full Moon falls at 2 degrees of Virgo (Sun) and Pisces (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Virgo, Pisces, or the other mutable signs—Gemini and Sagittarius—it may impact you more intensely
Prayers for Healing
With the Moon in spiritually oriented Pisces, it’s a wonderful time to invoke the power of faith in the promotion of healing. This need not be a complex activity nor one necessarily infused with religious meaning. Rather, just focus upon yourself—or another whose health could benefit from assistance—and say a prayer of hopes and wishes for betterment. If it feels right, invite others to join a prayer. Prayer may seem simple, yet it can be so very powerful.
Magickal Musings
The Moon in Pisces is the best time to work magick involving dreams, clairvoyance, telepathy, music, and the arts. Healing rituals for ailments of the feet or lymph glands are also done at this time.
